ABOVE A solar array of 400 panels producing 330 watts apiece now graces the roof of Marx Brothers Inc.
Marx Brothers Inc., a Birmingham company that imports and distributes coconut products, recently installed a rooftop solar system that can generate 35 percent of the company’s annual energy requirements.
The move was part of a sustainability drive launched by the company, which clearly seeks to remain on the cutting edge despite having been founded in 1919. The solar energy system in its first year will generate 205, 000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to power 16 homes, and offset 168 tons of carbon dioxide a year, equivalent to annual exhaust from 33 passenger cars.
The solar photovoltaic energy system was designed and installed by Vulcan Solar Power, a leading provider of turnkey solar energy systems across Alabama and Mississippi. The solar array spans 12, 400 square feet across its rooftop and consists of 400 330-watt panels.
“This investment in renewable energy demonstrates our company’s commitment to both the environment and to our customers nationwide, ” said Marx Brothers President Edgar Marx Jr. “We strive to operate with a sense of stewardship that contributes to the many sustainability efforts of our customers and will continue to seek solutions supporting these initiatives.”
Marx Brothers imports, produces and supplies coconut products for retail grocery chains, foodservice distributors, national accounts and bakery supply customers nationwide.
