Baptist Health hospitals sold for $910 million

Tenet selling its 70% stake to Orlando Health; Baptist Health continues in the joint venture

Shelby Baptist is one of five hospitals in the Tenet-Orlando sale.

Five central Alabama hospitals in the Baptist Health Group will be transitioning from Tenet Healthcare ownership to Orlando Health ownership. The two health care corporations announced plans for the sale Monday.

Tenet is selling its 70% majority ownership to Florida-based Orlando Health for $910 million.

Hospitals include Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Walker Baptist Medical Center, Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Citizens Baptist Medical Center and their related physician practices and facilities.

The hospitals will retain their joint venture status with Baptist Health System.

“We are grateful for the partnership with Baptist Health System, which has enabled us to collectively enhance the high-quality, compassionate care that Brookwood Baptist Health offers,” said Saum Sutaria, M.D., chairman and CEO, Tenet Healthcare. “Orlando Health is an esteemed, high-performing healthcare organization with an over century-long commitment to improving the health and wellness of the communities they serve. Integration of these hospitals into their network will advance healthcare for the greater Birmingham communities.”
