RMC Health System
Regional Medical Center (RMC) is the leading healthcare provider for a five-county region in northeast Alabama. It is a community-based, not-for-profit health system, handling approximately 11,500 inpatients, 64,000 outpatients and 44,000 emergency visits every year.
In April 2026, RMC Health System and the city of Anniston announced that they entered into an agreement to join Orlando Health, a private, not-for-profit healthcare system. The move follows approval by the RMC board of directors and the Anniston City Council.
The agreement is designed to strengthen the future of healthcare in northeast Alabama through new investments, expanded services and access to the resources of a health system focused on cultural and clinical excellence.
RMC also has entered into a partnership between it and Jacksonville State University. As part of the December 2025 announcement, RMC plans to build a free-standing emergency department on the campus of Jacksonville State University. RMC received approval from the Alabama Certificate of Need Board in April 2026.
Coosa Valley Medical Center
In the heart of Sylacauga, Coosa Valley Medical Center (CVMC) serves a five-county area with a population of 62,000.
The 168-bed facility offers inpatient services and a 13-bed Level III Emergency Department that treats approximately 25,000 patients annually. It also offers ambulatory/outpatient services, treating over 75,000 patients yearly.
Its West Wing opened in 2007 and has seen many renovations and service expansion projects to best meet the needs of its communities.
Baptist Health Citizens Hospital
Accredited by The Joint Commission, Baptist Health Citizens Hospital is a 122-bed hospital in Talladega committed to advancing the health and wellness of the community.
Baptist Health Citizens Hospital offers a full range of services to meet the diverse needs of patients, including quick, lifesaving response for those experiencing chest pain or stroke symptoms; comprehensive emergency room care; surgical services; cardiovascular care; diagnostic imaging; digestive healthcare; orthopedics; and a sleep disorder center.
Oxford Free-Standing Emergency Center
In addition to current facilities, a free-standing medical center is planned for Oxford. “The latest major investment in our community comes from the recent announcement by UAB Medicine of their intention to build a free-standing emergency room in Oxford,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “This will be a game-changer in both availability of quality healthcare in our region and the economic impact a facility of that nature brings to its host city.” The project is a partnership among UAB Health System, the city of Oxford and the Oxford Health Care Authority.
