Thompson Engineering, a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices in eight Southeastern states and headquartered in Mobile, has acquired Barry A. Vittor & Associates, a 20-person environmental research and consulting firm.
Barry A. Vittor & Associates is known for its laboratory services in benthic ecology and is broad experience in wetland assessment and restoration.
“The Vittor team is one of the most sought-after firms in the nation for projects involving bottom-dwelling invertebrates, and is highly regarded along the Gulf Coast,” said John Baker, CEO of Thompson Engineering. “In addition, the Vittor team’s talents in wetland delineation, permitting and restoration will enhance our environmental service lines, particularly in the industrial and transportation markets where we’re seeing significant growth.”
Barry A. Vittor & Associates was founded in 1977 and is headquartered in Mobile.

Thompson Engineering, established in 1953, is part of Thompson Holdings, which acquired Meyer Engineers of Louisiana and the Alabama operations of Burk-Kleinpeter in 2022. Thompson Holdings is also the parent company of Watermark Design, an architectural firm, and Thompson Consulting Services, a disaster recovery services firm.
