Outdoor recreation is a big part of the culture in this area. “We have parks, pools, lakes, trails and playgrounds for safe, family-friendly fun,” says Jacob Morgan, president and CEO of the Covington County Economic Development Commission. “Our landscape is varied and forested and our recreation treasures — both land and water — provide endless opportunities to fish, hunt, swim, ski, boat, camp, canoe and hike.”

Greenville is home to Cambrian Ridge Golf Course, part of the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. In Andalusia, golfers can visit the public municipal course, Evans Barnes Golf Course.
Learn From the Past
This part of Alabama is rich in history, and offers opportunities to walk in the footsteps of previous residents. Lowndes County is part of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. At the Lowndes Interpretive Center in White Hall, visitors can learn about the 1965 Voting Rights March.
In Covington County, take the self-guided Andalusia Art and History Walking Tour to view seven murals depicting local historic events, the spot where Hank Williams and Audrey Sheppard were married at a Texaco station in 1944, and other historic locations. Each October, the Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society offers tours of historic homes, churches, cemeteries and other landmarks.

Several historic theaters have been renovated and refurbished to their original grandeur and host concerts, movies and other events. Consider visiting the Georgiana Opry House, the Ritz Theatre in Greenville and the Clark Theatre in Andalusia.
The Andalusia Ballet presents four master productions each year at the Dixon Center for Performing Arts.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Boggs & Boulders Off Road Park and Campground in Brooklyn offers a wide variety of terrain.
All Aboard
The cities of Andalusia, Greenville and Opp each have historic railroad depots that have been restored and are open for tours and events.
