Alabama Finance Director Bill Poole, left, and Alabama Sen. Greg Reed, chair and vice chair of the Alabama Innovation Commission.

Last year, Gov. Kay Ivey created the Alabama Innovation Commission, Alabama’s first statewide commission looking at innovation and entrepreneurship.

Then Alabama State Rep. Bill Poole, who has since been named the state’s finance director, chairs the commission, with State Sen. Greg Reed serving as vice chair. In its first big move, the commission has overseen creation of the Alabama Innovation Corporation, which will carry on the work on the commission, which will disband after presenting a final report in October.

The goal? To cultivate more opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovators in the state’s economy.

Poole and Reed talk about how that might be accomplished and the past, present and future of entrepreneurship and innovation in Alabama.
