Master Boat Builders Inc., in Coden, will be featured on Discovery’s “Dirty Jobs” this Sunday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.

Out of the debris of Hurricane Frederic in 1979, Master Boat Builders was born. What started as a small venture has grown, with boats built for customers all over the world. The company delivers from conceptual design to the finished boat, including tugs, fishing vessels, offshore supply vessels, dive support vessels and more. Recently, the company started work on the first all-electric ship assist tug to be built in the U.S.

Mike Rowe, host of the series “Dirty Jobs,” will show viewers the ins and outs of building workboats, the essential vessels protecting our waterways and ensuring cargo moves efficiently up and down the waterways. Specifically, the show will highlight tugboats and the important role they play in moving goods in and out of the port.

“What an incredible opportunity it is to have Mike Rowe and the “Dirty Jobs” team right here in our community to showcase to America the essential work performed by our shipyard workers both in our area and across the nation,” said Garrett Rice, president of Master Boat Builders. “The shipbuilding industry plays a vital role in the Gulf Coast’s economy. Right now, in our shipyard alone, we have dozens of opportunities open from ship-fitters to project engineers and many exciting opportunities in between, and our industry is ready to hire the next generation of the shipbuilding workforce.”

The show will air on Discovery and Discovery+.
