Goodwyn Mills Cawood acquires Commercial Site Solutions

The acquisition builds on GMC’s reach into South Carolina and Florida

Goodwyn Mills Cawood, one of the largest architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, has acquired Commercial Site Solutions, a civil engineering firm with offices in Greenville, South Carolina, and Tampa, Florida.

“CSS has a unique reputation as an experienced site civil engineering firm with the ability to manage complex projects and serve a variety of clients,” said Kevin Laird, GMC executive vice president of engineering. “We are excited to continue building our engineering team in South Carolina and to establish our engineering presence in Florida through this new venture.”

CSS has been providing site planning and civil engineering design services for a range of developments including commercial, municipal, industrial, institutional and residential since its founding in 2007.

The GMC team includes (from left to right): Kevin Laird, Mike Lukus, Gene Hinkle, Scott Stannard and Tyler Morgan.

“The resources GMC offers in-house and the added capabilities we now have to serve our clients is something we’re excited about, as well as the ability to expand geographically with the reach of GMC’s footprint,” said Gene Hinkle, CSS co-founder and vice president. Hinkle leads CSS with Scott Stannard and Mike Lukus.

The acquisition adds 12 employees to GMC’s staff — seven in South Carolina and five in Florida. The CSS staff in South Carolina has moved into GMC’s offices in Greenville. The CSS Florida staff will remain in Lutz, Florida, just outside of Tampa Bay. It represents GMC’s fourth Florida location.
