Dollar General has opened a DG Fresh cold storage facility, a 450,000-square-foot operation in Montgomery. The facility, located at 6080 Mobile Highway, will support approximately 1,500 stores through the company’s Fresh initiative, which is a strategic multi-phased shift to self-distribution of frozen and refrigerated goods such as dairy, deli and frozen products. The facility will create 65 jobs.

“Our Montgomery DG Fresh facility will allow us the opportunity to better serve our surrounding stores and communities with the quality products at affordable prices that customers depend on us to carry. We are equally excited to welcome employees to the Dollar General family,” said Rod West, Dollar General vice president of perishable growth and development.

DG’s Montgomery distribution presence also includes the company’s growing private fleet network. The company currently provides store and distribution center employees with the opportunity to receive on-the-job training in earning Class A commercial driver’s license to join the DG fleet team.

As part of the grand opening, Dollar General is supporting literacy and education in Montgomery with a total of $15,000 in corporate donations to three local schools. Southlawn Elementary, Southlawn Middle School and George Washington Carver High School each received a $5,000 donation.

“Dollar General is a trusted company with a long history in Alabama,” said Elton Dean, Montgomery  County Commission chairman. “The River Region has a lot to offer, and we are thrilled that this esteemed organization, that does business across the country, recognizes that.”
