Raj Kapoor, previously Birmingham-based Shipt’s chief operating officer, has been named chief executive officer effective Oct. 18.

Kapoor, CFO from 2022 to 2025, left Shipt to be senior vice president of Marketplace at Target, which bought Shipt — a same-day delivery service platform that also offers Target Last Mile Delivery — in 2017. Kapoor succeeds Kamau Witherspoon as CEO.

“What differentiates Shipt is the combination of innovative retail technology and our unwavering commitment to quality and service,” Kapoor said. “I’m excited to rejoin Shipt, work with Target and our partners, and lead a team whose care and dedication I know firsthand. My focus is simple: enhance convenience for our customers, empower our shopper and driver community, and strengthen business performance across our offerings.”

Shipt is headquartered in Birmingham, with hubs in San Francisco and Minneapolis. Kapoor will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel regularly to Alabama and Minnesota.
