New South Lumber Company, a subsidiary of Canfor Southern Pine, has announced plans for a $10.5 million expansion of its facilities in Mobile.
Plans call for a new dual path continuous dry kiln, which will increase drying capacity, improve efficiency and support future growth, the company says.
The project also will help retain some 250 jobs, according to a press release from the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.
“This investment reinforces the company’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening its existing workforce and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the operation,” said Canfor Southern Pine Inc. President Lee Goodloe.
“Canfor is building on a strong foundation here, and this expansion positions both the company and our region for continued growth in a highly competitive market,” said Bradley Byrne, president and CEO of the Chamber.
Mobile County Commission Chair Connie Hudson added, “Canfor’s continued investment reflects a strong vote of confidence in Mobile County’s workforce and business environment. This expansion not only supports more than 250 jobs, but also strengthens one of our core industries and positions Mobile County for continued growth and long-term success.”
The project is slated to begin this month and be complete by June.
