Mizell Memorial Hospital, in Opp, has announced it has filed for Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, with the goal to stabilize the hospital’s finances while continuing to deliver care.
All hospital and clinic locations and services will remain open at current capacity, while the hospital navigates the Chapter 11 process. The hospital, in a release, states that all patient appointments or procedures will continue as scheduled.
“We assure you that filing for Chapter 11 provides a structure to address specific financial challenges while continuing our daily operations,” said Deborah Franklin, CEO of Mizell Memorial Hospital.
Mizell Memorial Hospital is a general acute care hospital serving Covington County and its surrounding areas for more than 75 years. It currently employs more than 200 people, and is the largest employer in Opp. The hospital states that it supports another estimated 125 jobs across the community and contributes an estimated $48 million in total economic impact.
“Mizell Memorial Hospital intends to continue to be a strong thread in our tight-knit community, serving our Opp family and surrounding area with the same ‘quality care with hometown compassion’ we’ve always strived for,” said Franklin. “Our doors are, and will continue to remain, open to all members of our community.”
