Primo A/S opens its Mobile facility

This is the first U.S. production facility for the plastic extrusion specialist

Danish-based Primo A/S opened its first production facility in the United States in Mobile on April 3, 2025. The company plans to employ 12 people at the plant.

The plastic extrusion specialist is occupying a new 24,000-square-foot polyvinyl chloride and polyolefins extrusion plant on the premises of SLB OneSubsea, an investor in the plant. The plant will supply PVC profiles of subsea cables, a component of SLB OneSubsea’s umbilical design.

The initial phase of Primo’s U.S. expansion includes the installation and operation of five production lines, with the first extruded plastic profile set to begin in the coming weeks. The company expects its production capacity to be at full scale at the end of the year.

“This partnership with SLB OneSubsea marks an important step in Primo’s expansion into the U.S. market,” said Claus Tønnesen, Primo CEO. “By establishing our plastic extrusion facility in Mobile, we are not only strengthening our collaboration with SLB OneSubsea but also contributing to the region’s thriving industrial sector. We look forward to growing our presence here and fostering innovation in the energy and offshore industry.”

Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne said of the partnership between SLB OneSubsea and Primo A/S, “The collaboration between OneSubsea and Primo highlights Mobile’s ability to attract global investment and foster innovation. This project strengthens our industrial base, supports critical supply chains for the energy sector and creates new opportunities for economic growth in our community.”
