8 appointed to Alabama economic development group

Business leaders come from across the state

Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed eight Alabama business leaders to the Alabama Growth Alliance, an initiative aimed at supporting economic growth and innovation efforts.

The recently passed Working for Alabama package of legislation established the Alabama Growth Alliance.

“The experienced business leaders on the Alabama Growth Alliance will be able to lend key support to the forward-looking strategies outlined in the new economic development plan,” Ivey said. “By working together, we’re building a stronger, more prosperous Alabama for generations to come.”

Those appointed by the governor are:

  • Angus Cooper III, president of Mobile-based Cooper Group.
  • Helena Duncan, president and CEO of the Montgomery-based Business Council of Alabama.
  • Macke Maulding, president and CEO of Bank Independent in Florence.
  • Jimmy Rane, chairman and CEO of Great Southern Wood Preserving in Abbeville.
  • John Turner, president and CEO of Birmingham-based Regions Financial Corp.
  • Allison Ross, a Huntsville-based consulting, real estate and public relations entrepreneur.
  • Jeff Peoples, chairman, president and CEO of Birmingham-based Alabama Power.
  • Bruce Culpepper, who lives in Guntersville and is former president and U.S. country chair of Shell Oil Co.

Ivey is chair of the Alabama Growth Alliance, with Ellen McNair, secretary of the Commerce Department, serving as co-chair. Ex-officio members include Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed, Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, Finance Director and Innovate Alabama Chair Bill Poole, Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton and House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels.
