Precast erection has begun on a five-story, $14.5 million parking garage that will bring 725 more parking spaces to downtown Huntsville.

The Monroe Street Parking Garage project will include the demolition of a two-story section of the existing parking garage and the construction of the new structure. Turner Construction Company is collaborating on the project with Fuqua & Partners Architects and engineers SSOE Group, and Schoel Engineering.

The new parking deck comes as the Big Spring Park area is seeing new hotels, including the Autograph Collection by Marriott, which will be connected to the new parking deck. The complex is within walking distance to the Von Braun Center.

The project will include 3D-printed composite rain-screen panels.

“The expansion and renovation of the Monroe Street Parking Garage is a key project within the ongoing redevelopment of downtown Huntsville,” says Ricky Wilkinson, director of general services for the City of Huntsville. “Once completed, this piece of infrastructure will make it possible for residents and visitors to conveniently enjoy one of the many events at the Von Braun Center, Big Spring Park or at one of the other attractions in downtown Huntsville.”
