U.S. Steel, based in Pittsburgh with major operations in Birmingham, said it has rejected a $7.3 billion buyout proposal from rival Cleveland-Cliffs. U.S. Steel says it is still evaluating more unsolicited offers.  – Associated Press

BCA political speakers announced

The Business Council of Alabama’s Evening for Progress will feature former U.S. Representatives Trey Gowdy and Joe Cunningham. Gowdy, a Republican, and Cunningham, a Democrat, will speak on Nov. 1 at the event in Birmingham that raises money for ProgressPAC, BCA’s political arm. – Alabama Political Reporter

Developer of Orange Beach properties buys former Mississippi casino

MIC, a company owned by Harry Mohney, who opened Dick’s Last Resort and The World Famous Cat’s Meow karaoke bar in Orange Beach, has purchased the former Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Mohney plans two restaurants, bars and entertainment, but not casino gambling, at the Mississippi location.  â€“ AL.com
