University of Mobile names interim president
Lonnie Burnett, Ph.D., has been named interim president of the University of Mobile, replacing Tim Smith, who resigned in February. Burnett is a history professor and executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the Baptist-affiliated university. — UM News Release

EWTN, the Alabama-based Catholic broadcasting organization, has announced plans to open ACI-Africa, to broadcast from a base in Nairobi, Kenya. ACI-Africa will broadcast in English, French and Portuguese. — Catholic News Agency

Financial tech firm, jewelry maker win Launchpad competition
Birmingham-based financial technology firm Quantalytix, founded by Will Bryant and Chris Aliotta, won $100,000 in early seed stage prize money in the Alabama Launchpad competition sponsored by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama May 10. The $50,000 Concept Stage prize went to McKenzie Wilbanks, a high school senior in Scottsboro, who makes jewelry and sells it online. The competition took place in Tuskegee. — EDPA

New psychiatric clinic opens in Huntsville
