Lonnie Burnett, Ph.D., has been named interim president of the University of Mobile, replacing Tim Smith, who resigned in February. Burnett is a history professor and executive dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the Baptist-affiliated university. — UM News Release

Financial tech firm, jewelry maker win Launchpad competition
Birmingham-based financial technology firm Quantalytix, founded by Will Bryant and Chris Aliotta, won $100,000 in early seed stage prize money in the Alabama Launchpad competition sponsored by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama May 10. The $50,000 Concept Stage prize went to McKenzie Wilbanks, a high school senior in Scottsboro, who makes jewelry and sells it online. The competition took place in Tuskegee. — EDPA

New psychiatric clinic opens in Huntsville
A psychiatric clinic to serve children and adults has been established by the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine at the Huntsville Regional Medical Campus. The new facility is staffed by board-certified psychiatrists. — UAB
