Milo’s opens Oklahoma plant
Birmingham-based Milo’s has opened a $60 million plant in Owasso, Oklahoma, near Tulsa. The new plant, which will produce 94,000 gallons of tea a day, will employ about 110 people. – Tulsa World

Birmingham passes budget with cuts
The Birmingham City Council passed Mayor Randall Woodfin’s $412 million 2021 budget. The budget includes cuts to account for a $63 million shortfall due to COVID-19. The budget includes furloughs at the public library and other institutions. – AL.com

Brasfield & Gorrie receives $2.5 million bonus
Contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, based in Birmingham, will receive about $2.5 million for completing a north Alabama bridge project two months early. The $15 million project was on a section of U.S. 231 south of Huntsville. – WVUA-23

Birmingham firm buys Indiana shopping center
Birmingham’s Sanders Capital Partners has purchased an 18,000-square-foot shopping mall in Merrillville, Indiana. The $4.8 million purchase continues Sanders’ expansion into the Midwest. – The Times of Northwest Indiana

Miles College enrollment up 40%
Miles College has enrolled its largest freshman class in five years, a 40% increase for the 2020-21 academic year. The college is in Fairfield, just outside of Birmingham.  – WBRC 6 

State receives nearly $18 million workforce grant
Alabama has been awarded $17.8 million to provide opportunities for workers displaced by COVID-19 to develop new skills. The Reimagine Workforce Preparation grant is part of the CARES Act, separate from the $1.9 billion in CARES Act funding the state received in March. – State of Alabama
