Report: Austal-built Littoral Combat Ships have cracks

A Navy Times report says cracks have been found in the plating of half the fleet of Littoral Combat Ships built in Mobile by Austal USA. The extent of the problem with the fleet isn’t fully clear. Austal is revising hulls still under construction, and the Navy will be fixing affected in-service ships.   – Navy Times

 

Mobile OK’s bitcoin mining

The City of Mobile has approved a bitcoin mining project for partners Distributed Ledger Inc. and GulfQuest Maritime Museum. DLI will house 100 mining machines, which will mine bitcoin non-stop in an air-cool shipping container. The companies hope to accelerate bitcoin adoption.   – Bitcoin Magazine

CarbonBuilt reaches carbon injection agreement

California-based CarbonBuilt has reached an agreement with concrete maker Blair Block to use CarbonBuilt’s low-carbon concrete technology at Blair Block’s masonry production facility in Childersburg. The technology is a process for injecting concrete with carbon dioxide emissions from power plants or other industrial facilities. – Los Angeles Business Journal
