Red Mountain Theatre celebrated the official grand opening of its $25 million arts campus in Birmingham with a ribbon-cutting.

The 60,000-square-foot facility, a former industrial space near Children’s of Alabama and Regions Field in downtown Birmingham, features two theaters, rehearsal spaces, dressing rooms, recording studio, classrooms, administrative offices and prop, set and costume production facilities.

“This is really and truly a game-changer for us and for theater in Birmingham,” said Keith Cromwell, executive director of Red Mountain Theatre.  “Being able to have everything that goes into a production under one roof is something that few theater companies can claim. We also now have a permanent location for our educational efforts, which is amazing. Our kids have a place they can call home.”

Cromwell spoke at the event today, along with Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, RMT Managing Director Jennifer Jaquess and RMT capital campaign chair Kathryn Harbert. The event also included several performances.

LIVE Design Group was architect for the new facilities, with Brasfield & Gorrie serving as general contractor and Harbert Realty Services as property development manager.

RMT has opened the theaters to several performances leading up to the grand opening. In addition to a full season of theater performances and concerts, the new RMT facility will feature regular piano nights at the new in-house bar that will be open to the public.
