ASF Logistics, in late January, began the process of transporting a 144, 800-pound industrial boiler from the Port of Mobile to Haifa, Israel, on behalf of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group and Haifa Chemicals.
According to Joe Morley, vessel operations manager at APM Terminals in Mobile, “The 144, 800-pound boiler is the largest single piece of general cargo ever loaded to a vessel for export from the Mobile container terminal.”
Being able to originate the shipment from the Port of Mobile, where its corporate offices are located, is a source of pride to ASF, according to company President Steven Chard.
Babcock & Wilcox Co., of Mississippi, built the steam-generating boiler. After the voyage across the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, expected to take 36 days, the unit will be placed in operation at Haifa Chemicals Israel plant. Haifa is a global supplier of potassium nitrate, specialty plant nutrients and industrial chemicals.
