Birmingham’s Motion Industries broke ground Wednesday on its $11.1 million shop facility in Irondale.

The 104,000-square-foot facility will house the company’s area fluid power shop, hose and rubber shop and engineering department.

Joe Limbaugh, Motion Industries’ senior vice president for distribution, inventory and operations support, praised his company’s partnership with Brasfield & Gorrie and Graham & Company.

“These two companies also did a fantastic job with the recent headquarters renovation,” he said. “At this property, we’re making excellent progress, and while it’s early, we’re ahead of schedule.”

The new facility, announced in October, is estimated to be finished by the third quarter of this year, with 15 new jobs created and 13 retained.

“The main reason for the investment is to strengthen our position and provide the best customer service possible as our customer base and our company grow,” said Randy Breaux, president of Motion Industries.

Motion Industries is a distributor of maintenance, repair and operation replacement parts, as well as a provider of industrial technology solutions, with annual sales of $6 billion and more than 550 locations.
