Master Boat Builders wins contract for tug

Tug will be sister ship to Polaris delivered earlier this year

Master Boat Builders has been awarded a contract for a 4,000-ton tug for PNE Marine Holdings Inc.

The new tug is sister ship to the tug Polaris, delivered to Polaris New Energy earlier this year.

The new tug will be partnered with a barge that’s under construction at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding Co. Together they will form an articulated barge-tug unit “to help fuel the cruise ship industry’s new LNG-powered ships in Port Canaveral in Florida,” the company said in announcing the deal.

“Master Boat Builders is humbled by the vote of confidence from Polaris New Energy to request construction of a sister ship to Polaris, which was delivered earlier this year,” said Garrett Rice, president of Master Boat Builders. “We are incredibly excited to continue this relationship with such a well-respected company in the industry.”

Master Boat Builders is based in Coden, in the Gulf Coast region of Mobile County. It was founded in 1979 and has produced more than 400 vessels from tug boats to dive support boats, fishing vessels to offshore supply vessels. The company is featured in the current issue of Business Alabama.
