Master Boat Builders builds new tug for Suderman & Young Towing

This makes the third tug under construction for the Texas company

Master Boat Builders Inc. is building a new tugboat in Coden, Alabama, for Suderman & Young Towing Company of Houston, Texas. This new order makes three tugboats currently under construction for Suderman & Young.

“Suderman & Young is one of the premiere tugboat operators in the United States and we are excited to continue partnering with them to provide another quality tugboat to serve the western Gulf Coast ports,” said Garrett Rice, president of Master Boat Builders.

The tugboat will have an overall length of 96’-6”, beam of 42’-5” and produce a bollard pull of more than 80 metric tonnes. The tug will feature two Caterpillar main engines, EPA Tier 4 certified  and each producing 3500 horsepower.

Robert Allan Ltd. designed the tugboat, which will meet United States Coast Guard Sub-M regulations and will be classed through the American Bureau of Shipping. 

Founded in 1979, Master Boat Builders has built more than 430 vessels for customers, including tugboats, offshore supply vessels, fishing vessels and dive support vessels.
