Confused about what to put under the Christmas tree for that hard-to-buy-for uncle or aunt? According to no less than Martha Stewart, you should consider Alabama-made socks from Little River Sock Mill.
While it didn’t exactly mention them in connection with the holidays, Martha Stewart Living did give the little sock mill in Fort Payne its American Made honor in November. Bestowed on only 10 or so companies nationwide, the designation is meant to spotlight the next generation of American companies making superb, inspiring and useful products that change the way we eat, shop, work and live.
Gina Locklear, head of the family-run business, says her company knits in small batches, using high-quality certified-organic cotton to create designs with Southern heritage in mind.
“Every day I am inspired by my mom and dad, who started our manufacturing business from the ground up in 1991, ” Locklear says on Stewart’s website. “I have a constant fire underneath me to make sure that the business they worked so hard to create has a bright future and that we are able to continue making socks in Fort Payne, Alabama, for many years to come.”
