Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia has donated $220,000 to SAE International’s A World in Motion program, which provides STEM engagement in Chambers County and Lanett, Alabama, and Troup, Harris and Meriwether counties in Georgia.

Kia has a longstanding partnership with SAE on its STEM outreach program, as well as supporting SAE’s JetToy Competition, where 500 students from schools in Alabama and Georgia break into teams to design and build the most efficient and smooth-running balloon-powered vehicles. Students use what they have learned in classroom activities to compete against other teams in distance, accuracy and timed events. Kia volunteers serve as the track judges, as well as volunteering in the classrooms prior to and following the event.

“Since 2012, KMMG has supported SAE’s AWIM program, reaching more than 78,000 students in over 60 schools in Georgia and Alabama,” said Chris Miller, chief administrative officer at KMMG. “We are honored to support a program that has built such a strong, sustainable model for teacher training, student learning and volunteer engagement within our communities — giving students the solid foundation they need for future STEM studies and careers.”

The SAE Foundation encourages and increases student achievement in science, technology, engineering and math subjects. Over the past three decades the AWIM program has reached 6 million students globally and has been supported by more than 30,000 industry professionals as volunteers.

Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia employs more than 2,700 team members at its West Point, Georgia, facility where it makes approximately 340,000 vehicles annually.
