Hoar Program Management has begun construction on an 80-acre, $50 million-plus recreational facility called The Land in Saraland.

Birmingham-based HPM is serving as the owner’s representative, providing project management, preconstruction and budget and compliance services to the city of Saraland.

Included in The Land project are baseball/softball fields, multipurpose fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, walking trails and a 75,000-square-foot recreation center. The rec center will include a fitness center, basketball courts, a climbing wall and laser tag area.

According to HPM, plans for The Land began in 2022 with a goal of opening the outdoor space in late 2024.

Located at an abandoned quarry adjacent to a landfill, the site was less than ideal. HPM states it plans to build the fields on a terraced structure, creating scenic views of the complex from the rec center, which will be located at the top of the hill. The landfill will be the location of a driving range.
