Job seekers can meet up with companies seeking workers during the two-hour Hired from Home event tomorrow, Nov. 10, sponsored by the Birmingham Business Alliance and Innovate Birmingham.
Job seekers participate for free. Companies that are members of the BBA also participate for free, while nonmember companies pay $50. Both employers and job seekers need to register for the event.
It’s the fifth such event since June 2020, when pandemic restrictions forced the job market to find creative solutions. More than 30 companies and 350 job seekers have participated so far, with companies like Shipt, Regions Bank, Protective Life, PNC Bank, Pack Health and the University of Alabama at Birmingham participating.
Karma Toliver, corporate account executive with WBHM, participated in a recent Hired from Home and made a connection with her current employer.
“I attended the virtual event ‘Hired from Home’ hosted by (the Alliance) and Innovate Birmingham back in March 2021,” she said. “It was a great way to get yourself in front of some amazing employers right here in Birmingham. It was there I connected with my current employer, WBHM. It’s turned out to be a fantastic fit for the position available and my talent and skills. I honestly couldn’t be happier.”
Karla Khodanian, who leads talent attraction efforts for the Alliance, said that, “As the Alliance furthers its mission to grow more and better jobs in the Birmingham region, we know we can’t do that without growing our talent base, too. The Hired from Home partnership was born out of the early months of the pandemic, but positive feedback from both recruiters and jobseekers alike have shown us that this is an event worth doing and doing often.”
