Riders who rely on public transportation in Auburn, Montgomery and Mobile now have another option for their commute.
FlixBus, in mid-December, has expanded its routes in the Southern U.S. to include not only these three Alabama cities but also Atlanta, Georgia. The company will partner with charter company Louisiana Motor Coach for the daily operation of the buses on the southern routes, while FlixBus will manage the technology development, network planning, yield management, operations control and marketing.
“We are excited to offer a convenient, comfortable and affordable way to travel for Georgia and Alabama residents,” said Pierre Gourdain, managing director of FlixBus USA. Tickets for FlixBus will start as low as $4.99, and in Auburn, there will be a stop located on campus.
FlixBus was launched in Germany in 2013 and has expanded to 29 countries across Europe. It began service in the United States in May, 2018 with routes in California, Arizona and Nevada. In 2019, it added its Southern US network with Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Also in 2019, it opened routes in Utah, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Columbus, the Pacific Northwest, Oklahoma and Florida.
With a fleet of buses that average two-years-old, the company offers riders free wi-fi and power outlets at every seat. By partnering with 500 local SME bus companies globally, FlixBus has created over 10,000 jobs for local bus drivers.
