Employees at Digium, a major IT software company in Huntsville, recently hitched their dogs to the company morale sled.
In late March employees brought their dogs to work to kick off a 2016 philanthropy project to support animal rescue organization “A New Leash on Life.”
“It’s the first of hopefully many more days where some of our employees’ dogs spend the day working alongside us, ” Marketing Director Julie Webb wrote, adding that 20 percent of companies nationwide allow employees to bring their pets to work. Companies have found that allowing pets increases productivity and morale, while also lowering the stress levels of employees.
Each year, Digium employees vote to adopt a local or national nonprofit to support throughout the year. As part of its support for A New Leash on Life, Digium will host adoption days throughout the summer and encourage neighbors in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park to attend.
A New Leash on Life places dogs (and cats) for adoption in “forever homes.” Last year, it was able to rescue more than 1, 600 animals by finding them permanent homes. Each pet in the program is fully vetted before adoption, which includes spay/neuter procedure, microchip insertion, FIV/Felv testing (cats), heart worm testing (dogs), vaccinations and de-worming. Veterinarians provide additional care if the pet is injured, sick or in need of further vetting. A New Leash is locally run without support from a larger national chapter.
