It’s a leatherbound, heavyweight volume that seeks to capture a level of hunting and fishing bliss that can only be found in Alabama’s Black Belt.

Produced by Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association, “Black Belt Bounty” is a 228-page, 11-inch-square collection of rich hunting and fishing traditions found in the state’s midsection. Along with beautiful commentary by some of the state’s best-known outdoor writers, there’s also vivid wildlife photography and even a section on cooking with tried-and-true wildlife recipes.

Black Belt Adventures, a public-private partnership committed to promoting and enhancing outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities in the state’s 23-county Black Belt region, is the resident expert on this topic. Its mission is to promote and enhance sustainable economic development in the area with outdoor recreational resources and cultural tourism.

“Our new economic impact report on hunting and fishing shows an impact of $1.1 billion, supporting more than 24,000 jobs and contributing $62 million in taxes,” according to Pam Swanner, director of the association. Statewide, the economic impact grows to $3.2 billion.

Along with a considerable amount of wildlife photography, there’s also a solid history section with black-and-white photographs of hunting club outings from long ago.
