Civil Judgment Against McGregor, VictoryLand

Milton McGregor, owner of VictoryLand gambling facility, came unscathed through back-to-back federal criminal trials but lost, to the tune of $64 million, in a civil suit just a few months later.

The civil suit, filed in federal court by Lucky Palace and the charities it had teamed up with as beneficiaries, claimed that McGregor and Macon County Sheriff David Warren conspired to keep other entities out of the electronic bingo business.

McGregor’s attorney told the Birmingham News that the judge had yet to rule on several key issues that could mitigate the judgment and that, if it stands, they plan to appeal.
