Huntsville International Airport is adding a cell phone lot convenient to its terminal. Construction on the $600,000 project has already kicked off.

The cell phone lot will provide a convenient place for people to wait when picking up incoming passengers. The incoming passenger texts or calls to let their ride know they’ve arrived, so the car arrives at the airport entrance just in time for the pick up.

Airport officials expect that offering a cell phone lot will ease congestion at passenger pick-up areas.

The new lot has space for 72 vehicles.

“The new cell phone lot will provide a convenient and safe place for guests to wait on arriving passengers,” said airport CEO Butch Roberts. “We are hoping that in providing this lot, we will see significant improvements for the traffic at the front of the terminal for active passenger loading and unloading.”

The airport allows vehicles to stop briefly to drop off or pick up passengers. It also offers 30 minutes of free parking in its lots, plus several paid parking options.

Huntsville International Airport is served by five passenger airlines with non-stop service to 13 destinations. More than 1.2 million passengers use the airport annually.
