Birmingham wants to revitalize historic neighborhood

The City of Birmingham has applied for a $50 million federal grant to revitalize the Smithfield community. The Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is meant to help replace distressed public housing and improve surrounding neighborhoods. It’s given to several communities across the U.S. each year.  – Birmingham Times

Zoe’s Kitchen closes 4th Birmingham-area location

Zoe’s Kitchen, the Mediterranean restaurant chain that started in Birmingham, has closed its Crestline location, its 4th Birmingham-area location to close.   – Bham Now

 

Alabama has more people moving in

Alabama is 20th among states in U’Haul’s Growth Index, which analyzes how many people are moving in and out. That’s a jump from last year’s ranking of 46th. Only Virginia made a larger jump in the index. – AL.com
