President Joe Biden will visit Lockheed Martin’s facility in Troy next week, the White House said today.
“On Tuesday, May 3, (Biden) will travel to Alabama to visit a Lockheed Martin facility, which manufactures weapon systems such as Javelin anti-tank missiles, which the administration is providing Ukraine and the Ukrainians are using so effectively to defend against the Russian invasion,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, White House principal deputy press secretary, in a Tweet.
Though Jean-Pierre did not specify which of the company’s four Alabama facilities would be visited, Lockheed Martin said in a later tweet that Biden would be welcomed at the Troy facility.
On its website, Lockheed describes the Javelin as “the world’s premier shoulder-fired anti-armor system.” It was developed for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.
In March, according to CNN, Ukraine told the U.S. it needs 500 of the anti-tank missiles every day.
