Hoar building $184M STEM complex at Auburn

Birmingham-based Hoar Construction is general contractor for the $184 million Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Agricultural Sciences Complex at Auburn University. The complex will be built on the site of recently demolished dormitories and should be completed by summer 2026. Goodwyn Mills Cawood and Lord Aeck Sargent are the architects. – Bama Buzz

Selma plant laying off 37

Ferroglobe USA Metallurgical, a silicon metal plant in Selma, is laying off 37 employees. Ferroglobe, based in London, England, had restarted the idled Selma plant in 2021. – Made in Alabama WARN List

Upscale mixed-use development planned for Pelham

A new development near the Pelham library on U.S. 31 will feature retail and restaurants. City leaders hope construction will kick off in the spring and be finished by the end of 2024. – WBRC 6
