Votes have been counted in the second union election at Bessemer’s Amazon fulfillment center, with 993 voting “no” for a union and 875 voting “yes.” However, there are more than 400 contested ballots, which haven’t been counted. A hearing will be held within a few weeks to decide the fate of those ballots. – NPR

 

Warrior Met strike hits one-year mark

The strike by the United Mine Workers of America International against Warrior Met Coal is 1-year-old today and is believed to be the longest strike in Alabama history. About 900 workers are participating, and about 15% of them have gone back to work over the past year. – AL.com

Alabama ranks near top for unemployment recovery

In a WalletHub ranking of states whose unemployment claims are recovering the quickest, Alabama ranked 10th when it came to comparing unemployment claims last week over the same time period last year. Unemployment claims were down 10% in Alabama from the year before in that time period.  – WalletHub
