Though it’s beginning to rise, the number of Alabamians who hold union membership is down 23.2% from where it was in 2013. Alabama’s union members make up 7.5% of Alabama employees, below the average national rate of 9.6%. That 7.5% figure is a gain from 5.9% in 2021. – Alabama Political Reporter

Birmingham Sheraton Hotel getting multi-million-dollar makeover

The Sheraton Hotel in downtown Birmingham will get a $5 million renovation, including a new lobby with bar, studios and other public spaces. Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of the year. – WVTM 13

FirstBank opens new Birmingham branch

FirstBank, based in Nashville, has opened a new location in downtown Birmingham. The branch at FirstBank’s regional headquarters on 20th Street is the bank’s third branch in the Birmingham area. – Bham Now
