Utz Brands will close its company’s Golden Flake Birmingham manufacturing facility in July, laying off about 175 employees. About 100 employees will remain in distribution operation. — AL.com

Alabama concrete association warns of scam

The Alabama Concrete Industries Association is asking for the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate a concrete purchase scam. The scam, in which stolen and fake cards are used to purchase concrete – sometimes in amounts exceeding $200,000 – has been reported in Birmingham, Dothan, Anniston, Tuscaloosa and Guntersville. – AL.com

Conrad Rafield III will succeed Claude Nielsen, who is retiring as chairman of the board of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United. Rafield is the company’s longest serving director, having joined the board in 1979. Fuel Alabama will offer summer programming for college students
