The Alabama Fiber Network has received nearly $53.5 million to continue expanding high-speed internet service in 24 Alabama counties. The grant will help develop the second phase of the middle-mile broadband network deployment. – Bama Buzz

$20 million McWane Economic Education Center planned for Birmingham

Junior Achievement of Alabama has launched a $20 million campaign to fund the new JA McWane Economic Education Center in downtown Birmingham. The interactive facility will offer students info on how to write checks, operate businesses and vote for mayor, among other things. The center will be designed as a replica of a small city. – Bham Now

Mobile airport adds nonstop flights to Washington D.C.

Mobile Regional Airport now has added twice-daily nonstop flights to Washington D.C. via United Airlines. The first nonstop flight from Washington to Mobile landed on Thursday morning.  – Fox 10
