Hale County Hospital
In March 2026, Hale County Hospital broke ground on a highly anticipated new emergency department. The new structure will span 6,000 feet and will connect to the existing hospital. It will include six treatment rooms, including rooms designed for bariatric treatment, obstetrics and a psychiatry hold room.
The current emergency room at Hale County remains open and functioning, but it was built in 1963 and is outdated and crowded. Construction on the new facility is expected to take two years, and then the old emergency room will be renovated and used for outpatient services.
The $3.7 million project received a funding jumpstart with $1 million in federal funds, secured by U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell, who represents Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. The remaining funds for the project are expected to come from local fundraising, along with state and federal grants.
In addition to emergency services, Hale County Hospital offers inpatient, swing bed, respite, inpatient/outpatient physical therapy, laboratory, home health and radiology services. It also has outpatient clinics in Greensboro and Moundville that provide primary care and psychiatric services.
With almost 200 employees, Hale County Hospital is one of the largest employers in the county.
