Jefferson State Community College opened its new Workforce Education Center last week during its 60th anniversary Pioneer Day event.

The center will expand training opportunities by offering skilled training in essential fields like lineworker, HVAC, multi-craft and electrical. The facility’s flexible laboratory and classroom spaces can be adapted for a wide range of education programs.

“The Workforce Education Center is more than a building; it’s a dynamic hub for opportunity in skilled trades,” said Leah Bigbee, Jefferson State’s dean of workforce development. “Its versatile design ensures we can adapt quickly to the needs of our business partners while providing our students with the best possible path to a rewarding career.”

The fast-track skills training portfolio includes a wide range of programs that includes health care, IT, manufacturing, craft training and business sectors.

Jefferson State Community College serves the greater Birmingham area and is one of the largest community colleges in the state, offering 116 university transfer programs, 40 career and technical programs, 30 short-certificate programs and more than 70 dual-enrollment program options. The college has four campuses in Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby and Chilton counties.
