Samkwang will be locating in Building 100 of REAL Park.

Samkwang, a South Korean manufacturer and supplier to Samsung, Kia and Hyundai, will open a manufacturing plant in Macon County.

The 168,000-square-foot facility will create hundreds of new jobs for the area, according to Farpoint Development and Opportunity Alabama, who announced the facility that will be at Regional East Alabama Logistics (REAL) Park.

“Samkwang represents a significant milestone for REAL Park and validates our investment thesis around Macon County’s strategic location with respect to Kia and Hyundai,” said Justin Patwin, principal at Farpoint Development. “We’re excited to continue the momentum of this transformational project in the State of Alabama that is bringing high quality jobs, new companies and economic growth to Macon County. Given current market conditions, we are looking forward to the next phase of development, which we hope will be even bigger.”

Joe Turnham, director of the Macon County Development Authority, praised the move that will bring a major manufacturer to the Tuskegee area.

“We have gotten to know the corporate and local Samkwang team, and we know that this will be a great partnership going forward,” Turnham said. “With our great I-85 location coupled with such a professional REAL Park team, this is an outstanding outcome for new jobs and prosperity for our area.”

The lease announcement comes on the heels of Hyundai Motor Group’s announced $21 billion in the U.S. between now and 2028. That will include investment in Alabama, the company has said.

REAL Park is a 700-acre industrial park that will eventually feature more than 7 million square feet of Class A industrial space. It is in close proximity of both Tuskegee and Auburn and is equidistant between Kia’s assembly plant in West Point, Georgia, and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery.
