Thirteen years ago, Shelly Thigpen joined Austal USA, a Mobile-based ship manufacturer, as a project coordinator for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. Today, she is a project manager for both the LCS and Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) programs. Previously, Thigpen worked for Avondale Shipyard on the U.S. Navy’s Amphibious Transport Dock (LPD) program as an industrial engineer. She is a member of the Mobile Alumni Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and is the Intellectual Development Adviser for Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Louisiana Tech University.
