2 Alabama companies among Fortune 500

Regions, Vulcan Materials make the list

Regions Financial and Vulcan Materials, two companies based in Birmingham, have made the annual Fortune 500 ranking, a list of the largest corporations in the U.S.

Regions ranked 483rd on the list, and Vulcan ranked 494th.

The list says Regions had $7.5 billion in revenue in the 2022 fiscal year, while Vulcan had $7.3 billion.

Walmart topped the list for the 11th year in a row, generating $5. trillion in revenue. The rest of the top 10 included Amazon.com ($510 billion), Exxon Mobil, Apple, UnitedHealth Group, CVS  Health, Berkshire Hathaway, Alphabet, McKesson and Chevron.

In her foreword to Fortune’s June/July 2023 issue, editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell noted signs of progress in the new Fortune 500 list.

“Fifty-two women run companies on the list, up from 44 at this time last year,” she wrote. “There are also more Black CEOs running Fortune 500s than ever before — but it’s shameful to say that there are still only eight.”

Companies on the list are based in 38 states, with Texas being home to the most with 55, followed by California with 53 and New York to 50.
