USA Health names administrator of University Hospital

Shannon Scaturro joins the staff on Jan. 1

USA Health University Hospital

Shannon Scaturro, MSHA, MSN, CRNA, FACHE, has been named USA Health’s University Hospital administrator and assistant vice president for medical affairs. He starts on Jan. 1, 2022.

“Shannon brings a significant amount of experience in hospital administration with him,” said Owen Bailey, CEO of USA Health. “He has worked with academic medical centers like USA Health and understands the unique role we play in the healthcare environment.”

Scaturro spent 16 years in the Mobile area before moving to Birmingham, where he currently serves as vice president of operations for Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham. There he has been responsible for all procedural, ancillary and support services. He also serves as co-chair for surgery and oncology services for St. Vincent’s/UAB Health System Alliance, where he has overseen the gastrointestinal service line growth plan, as well as serving as co-lead for laboratory services at the shared COVID test site.

At University Hospital, he will oversee the daily operations, as well as working with physician and health system leadership on developing new healthcare offerings to meet the needs of patients. He also will help develop educational and research missions for USA Health.

Scaturro is a University of South Alabama graduate and earned his Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee and later his Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Scaturro serves as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and on the Alabama Workforce Development, Healthcare task force. He also is a member of the Samford University School of Nursing Advisory Board.

Prior to his time with St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, Scaturro spent nine years with Providence Hospital in Mobile. He also founded United Anesthesia Resources.
