Two Alabama companies were awarded Department of Defense contracts at year’s end.

Alabama Shipyard, in Mobile, was awarded a $26 million firm-fixed-price contract for a 150-calendar day shipyard availability for the regular overhaul and dry-docking of Military Sealift Command’s hospital ship USNS Comfort from the Navy.

The contract does include 11 options, that if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $28.5 million. Work will be performed beginning on March 1 and is expected to be complete by July 28.

Founded in 1916, Alabama Shipyard is a deep-water shipyard and has one of the largest dry docks in the U.S., according to its website. The company specializes in maintenance and repair, overhaul, dry-docking, conversion, recycling and dismantling services for domestic and international commercial markets.

At the other end of the state, Torch Technologies Inc. has been awarded a $17.5 million modification to an Army contract it was awarded for engineering services. The contract was awarded through the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal and has an estimated completion date set for Dec. 30, 2022.
