MasterBrand to lay off 300 in Talladega
MasterBrand Cabinets will shut down its cabinet plant in Talladega, laying off about 300 workers. Production will continue at the facility until June. MasterBrand is the largest cabinet manufacturer in North America and last summer announced plans for a new, 840,000-square-foot facility in Jackson, Georgia, creating 400 jobs. – Woodworking Network
Union says tentative agreement reached with Warrior Met
The United Mine Workers of America says it has reached a tentative agreement to end its workers’ strike against Warrior Met Coal. About 1,100 workers have been on strike since Thursday at 10:30 p.m. The agreement must be ratified by the membership.  – AL.com
Port Authority, BCA seek to deny Amtrak expansion request, pending study
The Alabama State Port Authority and the Business Council of Alabama have both asked the Surface Transportation Board to turn down Amtrak’s request to start passenger service between New Orleans and Mobile. The Port Authority wants the board to compel Amtrak to complete a traffic study of the route. BCA says it’s worried about impact on freight service. – Trains.com
SBA offering loans to businesses, others impacted by tornadoes
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering loans for people and businesses impacted by the Jan. 25-26 tornadoes in the state. Deadline to apply for property damage loans in June 1, and Jan. 3, 2022, is the deadline to apply for economic injury loans. The SBA will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Fultondale Public Library on Wednesday at 9 a.m. – Alabama Political Reporter
3 Alabama law schools on U.S. News’ ‘best’ list
Three law schools in Alabama made U.S. News & World Report’s list of 2022 Best Law Schools. The University of Alabama ranked 25th, Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law ranked 144th and Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law was in the group ranked 147th-93rd. – U.S. News & World Report
