Baldwin County tops Montgomery in population
Baldwin County, home to Alabama’s largest beach communities, has surpassed Montgomery County to become the fourth-largest county in the state. Census Bureau estimates show that Montgomery County dropped by 5,000 people in the latest census, while Baldwin added 47,000. That puts Baldwin at 229,000 population and Montgomery at 225,000.  – U.S. News & World Report

Birmingham architect will design Africatown Welcome Center
The City of Mobile has selected Studio 2H Design, the Birmingham firm behind the Historic Bethel Baptist Church and the Carver Theater/Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, to design the plan for the new interpretative center celebrating the history of Africatown. The design team also includes Boston’s MASS Design Group, Birmingham’s StudioRotan, Birmingham’s MBA Engineers Inc., Birmingham’s SARCOR LLC and HM Yonge & Associates, which has offices in Pensacola and Mobile.  – Fox 10

Colonial Pipeline shutdown could affect Alabama prices
The ransomware-caused shutdown of a major pipeline owned by Georgia-based Colonial Pipeline could affect oil prices in a good portion of Alabama if it continues for a number of days. The federal government is working with the company after the ransomware attack – typically carried out by hackers who demand money while creating havoc on a computer network. The shutdown started Friday, and one analyst said an outage of five to six days could cause shortages and price hikes from Alabama to Washington, D.C. – ABC 5

Birmingham’s Red Mountain Theatre nears opening of new complex
Birmingham’s Red Mountain Theatre will open its new $25 million complex with a series of concerts from mid-May to June. The venerable theater broke ground for the new campus in December 2019. Those involved in the project included LIVE Design Group, Brasfield & Gorrie and Harbert Realty Services. –
