Alabama unemployment rate lowest since pandemic started
Alabama’s unemployment rate for January 2021 is 4.3%, down from 4.7% in December and the lowest the rate has been since the pandemic began. Still, the unemployment rate in January 2020 was 2.7%. – The Outlook
Alabama ranked 9th by national economic development magazine
Site Selection magazine ranked Alabama 9th in its annual Governor’s Cups analysis of job-creating economic development projects per capita. State cities scoring high in the 2020 rankings in their respective categories included Huntsville, Decatur, Auburn-Opelika and Cullman. – Alabama Political Reporter
Birmingham-Southern launches data science program
Applications are open through March 30 for a new Accelerated Data Science Program offered by Birmingham-Southern College in collaboration with Flatiron School. It’s a 12-week immersive summer program open to BSC and non-BSC students, as well as professionals. – Birmingham-Southern College
Alabama Power connectivity initiative earns national award
Alabama Power’s initiative to expand broadband access in Alabama has earned national recognition. The Edison Electric Institute named it the nation’s best advocacy campaign by a large utility. The initiative included Alabama Power partnering with business and community organizations to form the Alabama Rural Broadband Coalition. – Alabama NewsCenter
